Seniors’ fraud avoidance seminar
Sixty western Mississauga seniors had their issues addressed and answered at our Seniors’ Fraud Information Seminar on March 21. More than a quarter of us are now seniors! For the generation that came of age in the 1960s, that is truly a scary thought. But here is a scarier thought. Far, far too many of us are babes in the woods when it comes to protecting ourselves from fraud, scams, gouging and a host of other predatory practices of the 21st century for which today’s seniors are seen as ‘easy meat.’
- Consumer rights;
- Door-to-door sales;
- Fraud prevention;
- Identity theft, and having valid identity documents;
- Shopping tips;
- Signing a contract.
Staff from the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services delivered an informative session, with lots of time for questions and answers. These are always free community events.
