Hands-on learning about government in Ontario
Tips for teachers
Teaching students about government in Ontario can be a bit like trying to
nail jello to the wall. The object of the discussion is fluid and changing in
nature.
In western Mississauga, your MPP, Bob Delaney, is accessible to students, and
willing to come to your class and talk about government and about being an MPP.
Here are some suggestions:
- Bob can visit your Grade 5 class in elementary school, and talk
to the students about public life, and what it is like to be in
government;
- Bob often visits Grade 10 or Grade 11 classes to talk about
civics, and bring real-life politics into the curriculum. Talk to
Bob's staff about an idea you may have, and be creative;
- Bob visits early grades during Literacy Week at the start of the
school year to read to the students, and talk about the importance
of being literate in words and figures.
How to set up a visit:
- Contact Bob's office in Queen's Park to
make arrangements;
- See the list of Student Tips on this web site;
- Bob's office has a copy of a teaching guide on the Government of Ontario for
teachers in schools in western Mississauga.
