Winter highway and road maintenance
A number of local residents have sent our Constituency Office a copy of a form e-mail asking about snow clearing operations on Ontario roads and highways.
The form e-mail refers, in part, to a UK company, Carillion PLC, filing for liquidation. In January of 2018, Carillion PLC (global parent company) commenced liquidation proceedings in the UK. This does not affect Carillion Canada, a company that provides highway roads maintenance services in Ontario and Alberta, and some facilities management services to Pearson International Airport, Vancouver International Airport, and other private sector projects in Ontario.
Carillion Canada is not in liquidation. Carillion Canada holds several highway maintenance contracts in Ontario. Winter maintenance operations continues uninterrupted in all of these contract areas.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has an agreement in place with Carillion Canada that ensures Ontarians will travel on well-maintained Ontario highways during the winter months. This agreement protects some 1,100 jobs in Ontario, and ensures value-for-money winter highway maintenance for commuters across the province.
